A steroid scandal take I actually enjoyed reading

I've made my beef with just about every steroid-related story that has come out lately. But here's one I couldn't stop reading.

ESPN's Pat Hruby does an excellent job profiling former BALCO kingpin (and supposed sportsjournalists.com member) Victor Conte in this longer piece for The Mag.

Take a look and enjoy Hruby's humor. It's quickly becoming a lost art.

NFL league championship picks

Two things truly irritate me when it comes to the NFL.

First, watching the Chiefs bumble through the 16-game schedule. Seriously, on Dec. 10, KC Star columnist Jason Whitlock was talking draft pick and word on the street is that a local TV station was forced to buy up tickets to at least one of the last home games in order to prevent a blackout on the Kansas City CBS affiliate.

But after a nine-game losing streak, I sort of got used to seeing the red and gold futility.

Congressional committee: 'Grab your ankles, folks'

I've tried to take a day to digest this. But it's just not sinking in.

Courtesy of the National Surface Transportation Policy Revenue Study Commission -- AKA: The We Couldn't Think of a Longer Name Commission -- we have a wonderful suggestion of adding a 40-cent tax increase to every gallon of gas.

Pacman being Pacman?

You might want to sit down for this one.

Apparently Tennessee Titans defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones was in a strip club. And apparently, an incident took place. According to the Nashville Tennessean, a woman has filed an application for a judge to bring Pacman in after he supposedly sucker punched her .

Good read blog of the week -- beer style

No one really gasped in shock when William Wallace Foster (what a name, by the way) died in May of 2000.

Foster -- nicknamed "Fox" -- gained fame by being able to chug beers at a roided up rate. Even before his time on The Man Show brought him mainstream, Fox Foster was a man among boys.

In his honor, I give you this week's blog of the week. Aptly named "A Good Beer Blog," the site includes funny stories including the lord's brew. Really what else do you need? (There is plenty more, though, just in case.)

Excuse the mess

If you happened to click on the site earlier this evening, you probably noticed a different look.

Even now, the color scheme has been altered slightly. The next time you come back, it might again be different.

Just be patient. I'm toying around with a few different looks and hopefully I'll find one I really like sooner rather than later.

Two very paved roads

If you thought this weekend's NFL football point spreads were rediculous, wait until they start rolling in for the NFC and AFC title games.

Thank you Dallas. Thank you Indianapolis.

I now pronounce you... Brother and Sister?

Somewhere in London right now, a man and woman are independently sitting in their closets, rocking in the fetal position, crying and throwing up all at once.

Quit jerking us around

There's something saddening about Thursday's announcement that the NFL, MLB, the United States Olympic Committee and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency will donate a combined $10 million toward fighting steroid and HGH use among the world's greatest athletes.

It's not that putting money toward ending drug use is bad.

'Ha ha; your medium is dying'

A huge thank you to Joel Hammond for posting this on his blog.

In many regards, Nelson's assessment of newspapers in this 24-hour news cycle world is so true. I love newspapers, and I still think many of the world's best reporters and writers are working for them.
