About Ian

Here's what you need to know about me:

I outkicked my coverage when it comes to my smart, beautiful wife, Katie. Paraphrasing famed Kansas City Star Sports Columnist Joe Posnanski (in a story he told about former Royals pitcher Dan Quisenberry), I've found a woman who's 100 times smarter than me; I'm just using every day trying to catch up.

I used to be a full-time newspaper employee, but got out of the business when the writing was on the wall. I still freelance for a number of news outlets, primarily the Myrtle Beach Sun News, Surge Magazine and the Sports Xchange wire service, and I'll post links of some of my stuff here periodically.

My second career is where I now find myself. In addition to running a twice-weekly karaoke show at Tavern in the Forest, I have also begun doing DJ/Karaoke work at weddings, rehearsal dinners, private parties and other special events. In tow, I bring the best mobile equipment on the beach and can provide anything you need when it comes making sure the sound you need is exactly what you get.

As for the show at Tavern, it takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and on the latter, we do a weekly contest. The winner takes home some house cash and is automatically qualified for the $1,100 finals we'll hold June 23. Fridays now include a straight DJ night where I break out the turntables.

This last summer, I ran a laid-back karaoke show at Broadway at the Beach. There, I spent half my time listening to "Our Song" and "Before He Cheats." The rest of the time I tried my best to avoid getting hit in the head with a beer bottle.

Other than that, I'm a trivia junkie (some call it a fetish) and spend way too much time on Sporcle.com and SportsJournalists.com.
